Chemical Peels & Acne Treatments in Utah

Treat your skin to get a rejuvanated glow and an improved appearance.

Top-Rated Chemical Peels

Also known as chemical resurfacing, chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that produce an improved appearance of the face. Chemical peels are a skincare treatment used to treat photoaging (from sun damage), wrinkles, scarring, acne, precancerous lesions and discoloration (or dyschromia). Chemical peels increase the growth and development of your skin, removing the dead skin cells from the surface to reveal fresh new skin.

How Does It Differ From Normal Facials?

During a standard facial treatment, we revitalize the skin on your face with various nutrient-rich and medical-grade products. The end goal is to restore the youthful look of the skin on your face. A facial is considered "superficial" in the sense that the products used will sit on the surface layer of your skin throughout the process.

A chemical peel, on the other hand, is quite different. Chemical peels are a much deeper form of treatment for your forehead, cheeks, chin and more. The chemicals used in a peel are more potent than those used during standard facial treatment, as they exfoliate the skin by dissolving the damaged layers.

How it Works

At Hazelday Spa, we offer two types of chemical peels: AHA and TCA.

AHA Chemical Peel

AHA peels work by dissolving the topmost layer of skin to trigger skin cell repair. You won't see dramatic skin sloughing as you do with a TCA peel, but AHA peels remove hundreds of thousands of dead skin cells that are invisible to the naked eye. Mild irritation may occur, and you may notice minimal peeling in the following days. Overall, an AHA peel is an excellent beautifying treatment for those with sensitive skin.

TCA Chemical Peel

A TCA chemical peel is infused with cellular antioxidants to arrest damage from oxidative free radicals. It is a great overall peel that can leave you with the young, vibrant skin you dream of. Aging, sun damage and acne scars can leave our faces looking a little duller than we would like. Fortunately, most of this damage only occurs on the topmost layer of our facial dermis. A TCA Peel is strong enough to completely dissolve this top, damaged layer and revitalize the new skin cells lying directly beneath. As the old layer of skin peels off, you will be left with skin that is bright, fresh and undamaged.

TCA peels are considered "medium peels" as they reach deeper layers of skin. The deeper the peel, the more dramatic the results. A TCA peel will require more recovery time than a gentler AHA peel, so it is best for individuals with deeper fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and extensive sun damage.

Please note that chemical peels may not be suitable for everyone. Certain medications, like Accutane, cannot be taken if receiving a chemical peel.

Although the results and process vary from client to client, there are a few basic steps that you will need to follow to ensure a safe and effective treatment for your skin. Read about the pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions for your next chemical peel.

TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) provides a strong chemical exfoliation to reduce melasma (pregnancy mask), post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sun damage, superficial blemishes, post-acne scars, and correct and smooth out fine surface wrinkles through stimulation of reproductive collagen.

Those that are new to the world of chemical peels can introduce themselves to this beautifying treatment with an AHA peel. As AHA peels are not as deep as TCA peels, they are considered a gentler treatment and don't require much recovery time. They are perfect for those looking to brighten up dull skin, remove blemishes and rejuvenate their face.

Facials can address tired, old skin, fine lines and wrinkles, acne and clogged pores, flaky and dry skin or oily skin. A brief consultation allows us to define your skin type and problem areas so we can choose the right type of treatment.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

At your appointment, we will thoroughly discuss the procedure and products with you to be well prepared. We promise a relaxing, rejuvenating treatment and dramatically improved skin afterward!

Optimal results for a chemical peel take a few days to present themselves. At first, your skin will look and feel tight, and you may experience minimal discomfort along with areas of swelling. Areas of hyperpigmentation may appear darker as well. This is normal, so don't fret! These side effects are a result of the chemical solution sloughing off the superficial layer of dead skin. Once the layer completely peels, the bright, fresh and young skin beneath will be revealed.

AfterCare

  • Your esthetician will give you a full glass of water to drink following the treatment. We ask that you continue to drink a total of eight full glasses in the following eight hours after your treatment.
  • Do NOT peel off your skin; resist pulling off layers that begin to peel. The entire process can take seven to ten days. Pulling off the skin before it is ready could lead to permanent damage and scarring.
  • Follow all aftercare instructions given by your esthetician, using only the recommended products. Avoid harsh solutions, like scrubs or astringents, until the skin is healed.
  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible in the weeks following your treatment. It is always recommended that you protect your skin from the sun, even more so after chemical peel treatments. We recommended a full-spectrum sunscreen with at least 30 SPF.
  • Notify us of any concerns or increased discomfort after your treatment.
