Hair Removal for Sensitive Skin
Alternatives to Waxing

Hazelday Spa offers professional sugar waxing as an alternative to traditional waxing.

Hair Removal Alternatives to Waxing for Sensitive Skin

Having silky smooth skin is a luxurious feeling, but can come at a cost for sensitive skin. With traditional waxing methods, hair removal can be a painful process. Hair removal and extreme pain don’t need to be synonymous. With sugaring at Hazelday Spa, you can put an end to seeking alternatives to waxing for sensitive skin types.

What Is Sugaring?

The sugar waxing process is simple. A lukewarm sugar paste is applied to the skin against the natural direction of hair growth. The paste is then gently removed in the opposite direction (with the natural hair growth), completely removing the hair without causing damage to the skin. It is a less painful option for sensitive skin. Any part of your body can be sugared, from your legs to your eyebrows!

Shaving, laser hair removal, epilators and hair removal creams are popular ways to get rid of unwanted hair without hot, painful wax, but none are the best for sensitive skin. Sugaring is the only option when looking at alternatives to waxing that can deliver long-lasting, beautifully smooth results with a technique that is hypoallergenic and safe for your skin.

How Sensitive Skin Can React to Traditional Waxing

Traditional waxing can be extremely damaging to sensitive skin. This hair removal method attaches to both skin and hair, which can cause damage to delicate tissue cells, and the hot wax can burn or bruise heat-sensitive skin.

Sugaring with Hazelday Spa is a great alternative to waxing.

Sugaring vs. Waxing

Though the term “sugar waxing” suggests a similar process to traditional waxing, the two have nothing more in common other than being hair removal methods. In many ways, sugaring is the opposite of wax!

What sets sugaring apart:

  • Sugaring Pulls with the Direction of Your Hair. One of the most significant differences between sugaring and waxing is the direction the hair is removed. Sugar paste is laid against the direction of the natural hair growth and pulled with the direction of the hair. Wax is the opposite; laid with the hair and pulled against the hair. The sugaring method of pulling with the direction of the hair results in more hairs being removed from the hair follicle itself and far less hair breakage or ingrown hairs. Sugaring is ideal for sensitive skin; the risk of getting a rash is much lower (hardly ever) compared to waxing. Best of all, it also results in longer-lasting hair re-growth times!
  • Sugaring Can Adjust to Your Pain Tolerance. Unlike other alternatives to waxing, sugaring can be adjusted for your sensitive skin. Instead of using longer strips to remove large amounts of hair all at once, sugaring allows hair removal in smaller areas. This is useful for persons with lower pain tolerance, particularly in more sensitive areas. It all depends on your preference! Whether you choose a large or small strip size, sugaring is typically faster than waxing (depending on your pain tolerance and the texture of your hair). Everyone's hair texture and pain tolerance are different, but you should feel the difference between waxing and sugaring after your very first visit.
  • Sugaring Cannot Adhere to Live Skin. Wax adheres directly to live skin cells, which often results in injured skin cells during hair removal. This makes waxing extremely painful for people with sensitive skin (especially in areas that are more easily irritated, like Brazilians). Sugar paste cannot adhere to live skin cells. This means minor discomfort for you and less trauma to your skin. Sugaring will only remove dead skin cells — so as the hair is removed, your skin is also getting exfoliated — leaving you with silky smooth skin every time!
  • Sugaring is All-Natural. Wax contains resins, so chemical solvents are required to remove its residues, which makes it an even more painful process after removal. Sugar paste is made up of 100% pure and natural ingredients. Since it is water-soluble, it is easier to clean up and won't leave you feeling sticky. The sugar paste is only heated to room temperature and will never burn the skin. It is also more sanitary than waxing; using the same ball of sugar means no double-dipping, and it's a natural antibacterial! Sugaring significantly reduces the risk of infection and rashes.

The Benefits of Sugar Waxing for Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, sugaring is the smartest choice when looking at alternatives to waxing. Instead of using hot wax that rips at both skin and hair, sugaring uses a warm mix of natural ingredients that attaches only to hair and dead skin cells. This provides a less painful experience while reducing irritation to sensitive areas and decreasing the chances of infection. While sugaring is not pain-free, it is much more gentle on the skin than wax, and the process becomes easier with each session. It is a natural and safe way to remove hair.

Our professionals at Hazelday Spa are Certified Sugaring Hair Removal experts. We offer a less painful hair removal option ideal for sensitive skin, with longer-lasting results, natural ingredients and reduced pain. Contact us today to book your appointment!
